Glasgow Hornets 2008 Awards Night

Well on Saturday the 22nd November saw the Glasgow Hornets annual awards night. I would like to thank all that attended.

Well it is that time of the year again when I stand up and give my toilet roll of a speech. However you will be pleased to know that I will not be up here for long as your coaches want to say a few words aswell.

Firstly as always I would like to thank you all for coming along and I hope you have enjoyed the season as much as I have. This season brought 2 new coaches John Stevenson and Brain Graham with a wealth of experience and knowledge and I would like to thank them for taking up the helms at the respective age levels and I hope they have enjoyed themselves. Also for Andrew Wallace joining the Hornets, his help in the background has helped the club move forward.

This season has had its ups and downs, but that was due to the transition of moving to BAFL from the SFFA. It has been a hard slog but I am sure in the long run it will all be worth it. We have had our ups and downs this season Ups being the juniors making it to the 1st ever UK Flag Finals and finishing 2nd (I think a round of applause for the players and coach is in order) Also saw Clyde Bowl come back into the limelight after sitting in the dark for about 4 years. Which Coventry brought up 3 teams to play in. I have to say that was a brilliant day and I wonder who won. Well done to the juniors for putting in a great display.

Well the youths and seniors have a difficult season to say the least. With injuries, work, holidays I do not think we ever had a full team at any event (this is for both squads). It was unfortunate that we could not get any youth teams to play you in the Clyde Bowl however though things I am sure will change for next season. As for the seniors this season we managed to play I think it was 4 games with only 4 players and on the last game against the Bulls was some of the best football I have seen all season from the seniors we lost but only by 2 scores. The rest of the season was well the less said about it the better. To many chiefs and not enough Indians come to mind. For the games I did see of the youths it was a cause of point the finger rather than play the game. However though it was unfortunate that the season came to a close at the time it did as you were making a lot of progress with each tournament and I am sure if there was another tournament you would of won.

Below is who won what at their own individual age levels. I am sure there were some shocked people in their. Mind you I did make a wee mistake in my speech by saying that Kenny helped us to our only win of the season. The mistake being that he was not their (maybe that is why we won :P, only joking Kenny :D)
